Module  Overview

Module Overview

In this section we present ways to counter threats against networks.

Learning objectives for this module and the tasks you need to complete in this module are listed below.

Learning outcomes Module Objectives

By the end of this module you should be able to:

  1. Illustrate the layered defense (defense in depth) approach for security of a computer system,
  2. Name and describe fundamental network defense tools,
  3. Explain how firewalls, DMZ, IDS/IPS , honeypots, honeynets, VPNs, logs, backup, redundancy systems help secure networks,
  4. Utilize network defense tools in a simulated environment,
  5. Learn about secure and insecure network protocols such as ftp, telnet, ssh, WEP, WPA, etc.
  6. Demonstrate how some of the network attacks work in a simulated environment.
